Job summary

Specialized Recruiting Group - Livonia partners with a growing heavy civil contractor to hire a Project Accountant / Controller who will lead accounting operations, prepare monthly statements, manage WIP and CPC, and help build the company’s financial infrastructure.

You’ll work with ownership, review contracts, support month-end close, and collaborate with an outside CPA to improve processes and guide the transition from QuickBooks to Sage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with WIP, job costing and % complete.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and maintain WIP schedules.
• Lead Percentage of Completion accounting and job costing analyses.
• Review contracts and subcontractor agreements for financial impact.
• Support month-end close and year-end reporting processes.
• Collaborate with ownership and outside CPA to enhance controls.

Help Build the Finance Function of a Growing Construction Company

We're partnering with an established and growing heavy civil construction contractor seeking a Project Accountant / Controller to lead its accounting operations.

This is more than a traditional accounting role. You'll work directly with ownership, help improve financial reporting, support strategic growth initiatives, and play an instrumental role in building the company's accounting infrastructure as revenue continues to grow.

What You'll Do

• Prepare monthly financial statements
• Manage WIP schedules and Percentage of Completion accounting
• Perform job costing and project financial analysis
• Review contracts and subcontractor agreements
• Assist with month-end close and year-end reporting
• Partner with an outside CPA firm
• Improve accounting processes and internal controls
• Support a future migration from QuickBooks to Sage
• Collaborate closely with ownership on financial strategy and operational decisions

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred
• Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
• Experience with:
• WIP reporting
• Job costing
• Percentage of Completion accounting
• Financial statement preparation
• Sage experience is a plus
