Job summary

Temple Construction Co. in Temple, TX is seeking a Senior Accountant to own job cost accounting, drive the close, and work closely with project managers and leadership to grow with the company.

The role focuses on active construction projects, billings, and accurate cost tracking, with opportunities to enhance processes and internal controls within a small, hands-on team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Construction or project-based accounting experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• Experience with ERP or accounting system; construction software a plus.
• Detail-oriented and organized; able to switch between hands-on work and higher-level analysis.
• Able to communicate clearly with project managers, vendors, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own job cost accounting for active construction projects, ensuring costs, commitments, and billings are coded correctly.
• Partner with project managers to keep project financials accurate and timely, and support closeout and reconciliations.
• Oversee vendor and subcontractor payments, and review documentation for accuracy, approvals, and coding.
• Track receivables and payables, and help resolve discrepancies and collection issues.
• Handle bank reconciliations, daily cash activity, and cash reporting.
• Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Review GL activity and investigate anomalies.
• Assist with sales and use tax and other filings.
• Prepare audit schedules and support for annual financial statement audit.
• Help strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Own job cost accounting for active construction projects, making sure costs, commitments, and billings are coded and classified correctly
• Partner with project managers to keep project financials accurate and timely, and support project closeout and final cost reconciliations
• Oversee vendor and subcontractor payments, and review documentation for accuracy, approvals, and coding
• Track receivables and payables, and help resolve discrepancies and collection issues
• Handle bank reconciliations, daily cash activity, and cash reporting
• Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
• Review GL activity and research anything that looks off
• Assist with sales and use tax and other state and local filings
• Prepare audit schedules and support documentation for the annual financial statement audit
• Help strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

What You’ll Need to Be Considered:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Construction or project-based accounting experience (strongly preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
• Experience with an ERP or accounting system; construction accounting software a plus
• Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable switching between hands-on work and higher-level analysis
• Able to communicate clearly with project managers, vendors, and leadership
