The University of Houston's Computer Science Department seeks an advisor to support graduate students from admissions through graduation. You will help with degree plans, petitions, and coordinating student meetings.
Responsibilities include processing graduate admissions, guiding students on funding, policy questions, and course planning; maintaining student records; and coordinating orientations and seminars.
Department: Computer Science Salary: 43,000 - 48,900
Provides information to and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding the academic programs offered by the University or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through graduation; may coordinate the work of entry level academic advisors.
This position is responsible for advising current and prospective graduate students from admissions and retention through graduation. Duties involve, but are not limited to:
Preferred candidates will have experience or familiarity with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions or other ERP system such as Ellucian Banner; ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others; demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and customer service skills; keen attention to detail; proficiency in the Microsoft 365 software.
Education Will Be Considered In Lieu Of Experience.
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of (1) year of directly job-related experience.
