Job summary

The University of Houston System seeks an experienced administrator to lead the Retention and GradInitiatives department in Houston. You will manage day-to-day operations of a large university program, supervise staff and student workers, and oversee programs or processes supporting student retention and degree completion.

Responsibilities include developing procedures, managing fiscal activities and budgets, preparing abstracts, research reports and proposals, and ensuring policy compliance.

Qualifications

  • Requires a four-year degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in higher education student support or related areas preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and student data systems.

Description:

MQ:

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoreticaland practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professionaldiscipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professionaldiscipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtainedthrough a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a collegeor university or an equivalent in-depth specialized trainingprogram that is directly related to the type of work beingperformed. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year ofdirectly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing:None.

Manages the execution and quality of student facing retention anddegree completion work. Oversees case management workflows,supervises professional staff, ensures consistency in outreach anddocumentation, and identifies emerging patterns that requireoperational or institutional attention.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess thefollowing:

  • Experience in higher education student support, advising, academic advocacy, or related areas
  • Strong service leadership skills grounded in coaching, support,and accountability
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to managemultiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, especially incomplex student situations
  • Ability to apply policies and procedures accurately whileexercising sound judgment
  • Experience supervising or mentoring professional staff
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and internalpartners
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort working withstudent data systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with case management or coordinated care models
  • Experience working with student success technologies (e.g.,Navigate)
