Job summary

Hippo Insurance seeks a Senior Product Manager, Underwriting to own the underwriting platform, including rules engine, risk models, and AI-powered workflows across Austin, Dallas, Morristown, and San Jose. You’ll partner with Engineering, Data Science, Actuarial and Underwriting to drive strategy, discovery, and delivery, delivering measurable improvements in risk, efficiency and speed to market.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in product management with end-to-end software lifecycle ownership.
• Experience with risk platforms, rules engines, ML models, or decision automation.
• Proven ability to translate business problems into clear technical requirements for engineering teams.
• Directly improved risk and efficiency metrics (loss ratio, automation) at scale.
• Ability to set a compelling vision for a technical domain while driving near-term execution.
• Strong stakeholder management across business, technical, and executive audiences.
• Data-driven decision making with strong analytical skills and clear metrics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• PM experience in insurance/financial services or adjacent industry.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the multi-year product strategy and vision for Hippo's Underwriting Platform, including rules engine, risk models, and AI workflows.
• Identify opportunities to modernize and scale UW infrastructure to improve loss ratio, underwriting accuracy, efficiency, and speed to market.
• Influence company-wide prioritization decisions for the UW platform, aligning product, engineering and leadership without direct authority.
• Stay ahead of insurtech, AI, and risk modeling trends and translate them into a roadmap.
• Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for the UW platform: discovery, prioritization, requirements, delivery and post-launch performance.
• Lead cross-functional execution with Engineering, Data Science, Actuarial, and Underwriting to deliver on time and with quality.
• Translate complex business and risk requirements into crisp PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Drive measurable outcomes — loss ratio impact, underwriter efficiency, model accuracy, automation rates.
• Serve as the bridge between Underwriting/Actuarial and Engineering, understanding business needs and enabling tech to meet them.
• Build partnerships with stakeholders, earning trust through delivery and clear communication.
• Communicate strategy, tradeoffs, and outcomes to leadership with data-driven narratives.
• Drive evolution of Hippo's rules engine for faster, safer underwriting changes.
• Partner with Data Science to integrate risk models into the underwriting workflow.
