Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a collaborative Senior Product Manager to support the Abstract Wikipedia project, which aims to increase access to encyclopedic knowledge by enabling more people to share knowledge in multiple languages.

We are committed to making knowledge universally accessible. This role offers an opportunity to innovate at the intersection of machine learning, natural language generation, and computational linguistics.

Abstract Wikipedia envisions a future where articles are written once in an abstract form and translated into any language through a community-edited natural language system. This is supported by Wikifunctions, an open-source catalog of code functions for multilingual use.

The Senior Product Manager will translate this vision into tangible impact, working with an international team across time zones UTC-4 to UTC+1.

You are responsible for:
  • Developing a strategic roadmap balancing short-term and long-term goals.
  • Aligning stakeholders and the community to define and drive the product vision.
  • Managing the entire product lifecycle from ideation to launch and iteration.
  • Using data and user insights to inform decisions and measure impact.
  • Understanding community needs and releasing features iteratively to deliver value.
  • Establishing effective product development processes.
  • Leading product discovery, prioritization, and decision-making.
  • Prioritizing new products, services, and managing the product backlog.
  • Communicating trade-offs and product decisions clearly.
  • Sharing the product vision with internal and external audiences.
Skills and Experience:
  • At least 5 years in software product management.
  • Flexible approach to product development methodologies.
  • Experience in developing product management frameworks and strategies.
  • Proven success in clarifying ambiguous projects and taking action.
  • Excellent communication skills, proactive in sharing plans and results.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and project management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and communities.
  • Experience working remotely across time zones.
  • Comfort with evolving requirements in dynamic environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with NLP, computational linguistics, or knowledge management technologies.
  • Experience with multilingual platforms and understanding of internationalization/localization.
  • Experience editing Wikimedia projects.
