Senior Product Manager, Reader Experience

Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a proactive senior product manager to enhance Wikipedia readers' experience by joining the new Reader Experience team within our Product and Technology department. This department develops wiki experiences that help our communities realize our vision: a world where everyone can freely share in all knowledge. This role offers a chance to impact one of the internet's most cherished platforms.

Background
Wikipedia is among the world's most visited media sites, with over 1 billion monthly visitors across 300+ languages. Most users—over 99%—are unlogged on via mobile or desktop. The Reader Experience team aims to improve foundational website features like navigation, layout, and accessibility, while introducing new features to deepen user engagement and encourage active participation. As product manager, you will lead cross-functional teams to develop, test, and scale new experiences for millions globally.

Reporting Line
This role reports to the Group Product Manager, Readers.

Availability & Travel
Candidates must be available for meetings between 15:00 UTC and 19:00 UTC and be open to international travel up to four times annually.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead the Reader Experience team to develop features that foster deeper reader connections, focusing on personalized content curation and presentation.
  2. Refine the Wikipedia reading experience, managing multiple skins and accessibility options like dark mode.
  3. Engage with volunteer communities to gather feedback and collaboratively refine project plans.
  4. Utilize measurement practices such as A/B testing and user research, respecting privacy constraints.
  5. Track progress and maintain planning documents like roadmaps, specifications, and release schedules.
  6. Stay informed on advancements in knowledge seeking, AI, and industry best practices.
  7. Understand diversity within Wikimedia communities and its influence on our work.
  8. Collaborate with Communications, Marketing, and Legal teams on high-profile projects.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience, including 3+ years as a product manager in consumer-facing software, preferably agile.
  • Proven success in building global products on mobile and desktop platforms.
  • Strong grasp of design principles and experience working with design teams.
  • Knowledge of the internet knowledge landscape and current learning trends.
  • Experience aligning multiple senior stakeholders on complex projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with controlled experiments in product decision-making.
