Job summary

Barnes & Thornburg LLP is seeking a seasoned Counsel to join the firm’s product liability and mass torts resolution team. The attorney will lead complex settlements from negotiations through claims resolution and program closure, coordinating with partners and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active and in good standing with the local state Bar, or eligible to waive in.
• Minimum of 8 years of significant law practice focusing on mass torts, including at least 3 years at a law firm.
• Claims resolution experience, preferably in pharmaceutical products, medical devices, or consumer health products.
• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple teams and work streams.
• Familiarity with matter management systems, claims administration platforms, and AI-enabled claim review platforms preferred.
• Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating settlement documents; strong contracting principles.
• Strong problem-solving, project management, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support settlement negotiations in complex product liability, mass tort, and toxic tort matters.
• Help develop settlement structures and eligibility criteria.
• Serve as primary legal and operations lead to ensure settlements are executed efficiently and compliantly.
• Work with plaintiffs’ counsel to negotiate, draft and finalize settlement documents.
• Manage teams of nurse paralegals and other attorneys to review and categorize claims.
• Perform data analysis across claims to identify trends and monitor values.
• Oversee all aspects of settlement implementation and claims administration.
