Job summary

City of New York's Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) is seeking Senior Product Designers for resident-facing products. You will own end-to-end design from research to launch, collaborating with PMs, engineers, policy teams, and city staff to deliver accessible, scalable solutions.

You will lead problem framing, prototyping, and testing, shaping design systems and ensuring quality across the product lifecycle, within a small, mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four years of satisfactory full‑time experience in the required area.
• An associate degree with six years of satisfactory full‑time experience in the required area.
• A bachelor’s degree with eight years of satisfactory full‑time experience in the required area.
• Equivalency of education and/or experience to the above.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design on resident-facing products, from concept to launch, owning user research, interaction design, content design, and visual design.
• Move quickly through rapid prototyping, usability testing, MVP iteration, pilot, and public launch, balancing scope, quality, and timing.
• Plan and conduct user research with New Yorkers, including interviews, usability sessions, and field visits, and translate findings into action.
• Design clear user flows, information architecture, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces, and build prototypes to test interactions.
• Practice plain-language content design, turning complex rules into clear, actionable product copy.
• Partner with product managers, engineers, user researchers, and other OTI staff on day-to-day decisions and prioritization.

Education

Baccalaureate degree in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field

Associate degree in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or related field

Baccalaureate degree with eight years experience in related area

Education and/or experience equivalent to 1-3 above
