Job summary

OpenAI's Legal team seeks a Product Counsel in San Francisco to advise on hardware products and associated software. You will collaborate with engineering, product, design, and business teams from development through launch and ongoing support.

Ideal candidate has 8+ years of product counseling experience, JD and CA license, and the ability to translate complex tech into actionable legal guidance. Hybrid work with relocation assistance is offered.

Qualifications

8+ years of relevant legal experience, including product counseling for consumer devices and software embedded in hardware.
Experience with software licensing and device software interactions with hardware.
Ability to translate technical concepts into actionable legal guidance.
Strong cross-functional communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

Advise on a broad range of issues arising from hardware products and their software.
Work closely with product, engineering, design, and business teams from development through launch and support.
Provide product counseling on consumer experiences, user terms, disclosures, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate on product, commercial, IP, privacy, security, competition, and regulatory legal issues to align with product goals.
Build practical guidance and review processes, and manage emerging issues across teams.
