Job summary

Blue Bird Corporation in Troy, MI seeks a Senior Product Cost Engineer to lead the cost strategy for a next-generation chassis platform from concept to launch. You will own modeling, VA/VE, DFM/DFA, and cost optimization across the vehicle with cross-functional teams.

The role requires strong cost engineering expertise, collaboration with suppliers and internal teams, and the ability to influence decisions while maintaining safety and quality. U.S. work eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in product cost engineering, manufacturing engineering, product development, value engineering, or commercial vehicle engineering.
• All candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Own product cost development from concept through production launch.
• Lead VA/VE, Design-to-Cost, DFM, and DFA initiatives.
• Develop component, subsystem, and vehicle-level cost models.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Strategic Sourcing, Finance, and programs.
• Support supplier cost analyses, should-cost analyses, and negotiations.
• Ensure compliance with emissions, safety, diagnostics, cybersecurity requirements.
• Support prototype builds, validation, and production launches with cost optimization.
