Job summary

Bazaarvoice in Austin, TX seeks a senior New Product and Regulatory Counsel to guide product teams and technology partnerships, with a strong focus on AI governance, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.

You will advise on AI strategy, review SaaS/PaaS contracts, lead privacy-by-design initiatives, and partner with IT, Security, and Compliance to mitigate legal risk across global markets.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one state bar.
• 10+ years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on product counseling, regulatory compliance, and technology transactions.
• Experience advising on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data privacy; understanding of LLMs and data used to train them.
• Strong working knowledge of global data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA) and the emerging AI/digital services regulatory landscape.
• Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory risks into practical, actionable business advice for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to operate autonomously, lead cross-functional initiatives, and influence executive decision-making.
• Experience building or scaling an AI governance framework or AI review committee.
• Certifications such as CIPP/US or CIPP/E are a plus.
• Background or undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

• Provide forward-looking legal advice on technology-related matters including software development, cloud computing, GenAI/LLMs, and ML initiatives.
• Embed with product and engineering teams to review new features and products from ideation to launch, ensuring privacy-by-design and AI-safety-by-design principles are met.
• Lead development and updating of policies related to acceptable AI use, AI governance, and data privacy.
• Monitor emerging technology laws and regulations globally with focus on AI and data privacy.
• Identify legal/ethical risks in tech projects involving AI-generated content and develop mitigation strategies.
• Draft, review, and negotiate high-stakes technology agreements (SaaS, PaaS, partnerships).
• Scrutinize AI model provider agreements focusing on data usage rights, IP indemnification, and confidentiality.
• Protect and enforce the company’s IP including AI-related challenges.
• Collaborate with IT, Security, Privacy, and Compliance to ensure data workflows meet privacy and security standards.
• Advise senior leadership across IT, Security, Product Development, Engineering, Sales, and Business Development.
• Develop and deliver training on responsible AI usage, tech contract fundamentals, IP protection, and data privacy.
