Job summary

Bumble Inc. in Austin, TX seeks a Senior Product Counsel to partner with Product, Engineering, AI/ML, Design and Trust & Safety teams across the product lifecycle. You will act as a Legal Product advisor to ensure products are innovative, responsible, and legally sound.

This role requires a J.D. and active bar membership in the UK/EU, strong privacy/data protection knowledge, and a proven ability to coordinate across legal disciplines to manage regulatory risk while enabling growth.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing in UK/EU.
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience in high-growth tech, in-house or at a top-tier firm.
• Proven expertise advising product teams on privacy, platform liability, and consumer protection.
• Strong knowledge of global privacy/data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, UK DPA).
• Experience coordinating across multiple legal disciplines for end-to-end regulatory coverage.

Responsibilities

• Act as a primary legal advisor to product and engineering teams from design through launch and iteration.
• Advise on emerging areas for core product, incl. generative AI, online safety, IP/copyright, open source, privacy.
• Collaborate with Legal, Privacy, AI/ML, Compliance, and InfoSec to deliver clear, actionable guidance.
• Implement scalable legal processes, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency.
• Ensure products comply with data protection and privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA).
• Coordinate legal input across teams to deliver timely feedback to product teams.
• Promote privacy-by-design, safety-by-design, transparency, and member-first principles.
• Partner with product, policy, trust & safety, and engineering to support responsible development.
• Assist with Trust and Safety escalations and transparency reports.
• Create playbooks, checklists, and scalable legal tools for agile development.
• Build trusted stakeholder relationships and communicate complex legal concepts clearly.
