Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to join our Upington, Northern Cape operations, with a hybrid work arrangement. You will lead PHAs, QRAs, and safety management system implementation to protect personnel, the environment, and assets.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in process safety within Oil & Gas or petrochem, with HAZOP/LOPA experience, IEC 61511 knowledge, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years of process safety engineering in Oil & Gas or petrochemical.
• Proven PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA) and QRAs experience.
• Strong knowledge of IEC 61511, API, and OSHA PSM.
• Experience with PHAST and ALOHA.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
• Strong communication, influencing, and leadership capabilities.
• Hybrid work arrangement with site visits.
• Certifications CSP or CCPSC are desirable.
• Commitment to fostering a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and facilitate PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, What-If).
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
• Conduct SIL assessments and specify SIS.
• Perform QRAs and consequence modeling.
• Review facility designs for process safety compliance.
• Investigate safety incidents and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training.
• Audit compliance with safety requirements.
• Monitor KPIs for process safety and report on performance.
• Provide expert process safety advice to teams.
