Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for a Welkom, Free State facility. You will develop and maintain robust process safety systems, perform PHAs, and drive compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP standards.

The role requires 4+ years in process safety within chemical or manufacturing sectors and CSP certification is a strong plus. On-site position with a focus on safety culture and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years in process safety within chemical, petrochemical or manufacturing industries.
• Knowledge of PSM principles (OSHA PSM, EPA RMP) and PHAs.
• Familiarity with QRA and risk assessment techniques; strong analytical skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder influence; CSP is a plus.

• Develop and manage Process Safety Management programs and procedures.

About the Role

Our client, a significant player in the industrial chemical sector, is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their facility in Welkom, Free State . This critical role ensures the highest standards of safety are maintained across all chemical operations, protecting personnel, the environment, and assets. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust process safety management systems, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This is an essential position for safeguarding operations and promoting a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures.
• Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Perform incident investigations and root cause analyses for safety-related events.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to employees at all levels.
• Ensure compliance with relevant national and international safety regulations and standards.
• Audit safety systems and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
• Review management of change (MOC) proposals to ensure process safety is maintained.
• Maintain process safety information (PSI) and ensure its accuracy and accessibility.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, or manufacturing industries.
• In-depth knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
• Proven experience in conducting various PHA methodologies.
• Familiarity with risk assessment techniques and quantitative risk analysis (QRA).Strong understanding of chemical process hazards and mitigation strategies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in Welkom, Free State .
