Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Process Safety Engineer for a large chemical processing facility in Welkom. You will identify, assess, and mitigate process hazards to protect personnel, the environment, and the facility while developing robust safety management systems.

You will lead PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA/What-If), implement PSM, investigate incidents, prepare safety procedures, and train plant personnel to foster a strong safety culture and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of process safety engineering experience in chemical/petrochemical.
• Strong knowledge of PSM standards (OSHA, EPA RMP).
• Experience with PHA methodologies such as HAZOP/LOPA/What-If.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of safety standards and codes for chemical plants.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PHAs including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If analyses.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management programs.
• Investigate incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, implement actions.
• Develop safety procedures, operating manuals, and emergency plans.
• Provide training on process safety to plant personnel.
• Perform safety audits and assessments of plant operations.
