Job summary

Applied Materials, Inc. is seeking an experienced Process Integrator for advanced semiconductor packaging and co-packaged optics (CPO) in Albany, NY.

You will lead integration across unit processes, materials, metrology, reliability, and equipment to deliver robust, scalable flows. The role prefers expertise in CPO and silicon photonics, with strong cross-functional collaboration across engineering, suppliers, and customers.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Photonics, or a related field.
• 5–10 years in a semiconductor process integrator or process-integration role in R&D or advanced tech development.
• Experience building and executing integrated semiconductor or photonics process flows.
• Strong understanding of CPO, silicon photonics, photonic ICs, optical engines, or optical/electrical integration.
• Knowledge of optical coupling, alignment, fiber interfaces, fine-pitch interconnects, substrate or interposer integration.
• Experience planning experiments, applying DOE methods, interpreting datasets for decisions.
• Proven ability to lead technically complex R&D projects with ambiguity and risk.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end process integration for advanced packaging programs from concept to transfer.
• Develop integrated processes for photonic ICs, electronic ICs, optical engines, and interposers.
• Translate requirements into integration specs and measurable success criteria.
• Lead cross-functional execution across photonics, device, packaging, lithography, deposition, etch, metrology, and reliability teams.
• Drive integration of photonic and electronic die, including die-to-wafer or wafer-to-wafer bonding.
• Design experiments and DOEs to optimize optical loss, coupling, and reliability.
• Integrate laser, modulator, detector, waveguide, and thermal-management requirements.
• Identify and resolve CPO integration risks like contamination, alignment error, or warpage.
• Create technology roadmaps, reviews, risk assessments, and exec-ready reports.
• Identify invention opportunities and contribute to IP and disciplined R&D practices.
