Roll Accountabilities:
Work closely with external consultants and Hudbay SME’s through design, construction, and commissioning of the mineral processing plants.
Develop deep understanding of Copper World ore characteristics, expected metallurgical response, concentrator and leach plant design.
Safety, Health and the Environment:
Safety and health of all employees in your area and execution of the area safety plan.
Contribute to the development of the Safety and Health Plan for self and department including standards and controls.
Provide support to investigate significant incidents (as requested).
Provide subordinates (staff and hourly) with a thorough knowledge of applicable government and company safety regulations
Planning
Assist with planning and delivery of budget revenue by meeting or exceeding metal production targets
Assist Metallurgy Manager with updating and formulation of production forecasts, capital, operating and production budgets
Production (Technical)
Develops a detailed understanding of the process flow sheets and operation of concentrator (and leach plant).
Direct technical input into the operation of the processing plant to ensure budget and forecast production targets are met.
Identification and rapid implementation of improvement opportunities, actively seeking opportunities for increased free cash flow and reduced costs. Subsequently guiding Plant Metallurgy team to assist in planning and execution.
An active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks, providing robust product for the operating team and delivering on expected performance gains.
Prepares scopes and carries out laboratory and plant test work using a range of analytical techniques and equipment to support production quality control programs.
Regular monitoring of routine mineralogical test work data to inform longer term projects and plant operating philosophy
Assist Metallurgy Manager with completion of end of month metal balance reconciliation
People:
Provide mentoring and coaching to area specific Metallurgical technicians and operations personnel for continuous performance improvement
Compliance
Comply with all systems that will provide integrity, timely and relevant information flow, openness and transparency, effective risk management, and sound controls consistent with Copper World maintenance systems.
Take all necessary actions to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, legislation, regulations, policies, work standards, and governance.
Minimum Qualifications and Education:
University degree in mineral processing Metallurgy or Engineering
5+ years’ experience in metallurgical teams operating processing plants
Knowledge to read and interpret production plans, metallurgy, and production schedules to optimize production.
Familiarity with copper flotation processing plants, including flotation of oxides essential.
Familiarity with concentrate leach technology would be an asset.
Theoretical understanding and practical experience with safety management, asset utilization, communication, process variation (SPC), and management accounting
Demonstrated skill to plan, establish targets/standards, schedule resources, and conduct work effectively to achieve a pre-defined target.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to recommend corrective actions based on monitoring the conditions that could adversely affect, under or exceed, the scheduled production targets.
