Job summary

Yanfeng is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to lead injection molding process improvements and support new product launch tooling at our Ohio facility. You will collaborate with PE's, mold setters, and technicians to reduce cycle times, scrap, and costs while ensuring quality and safety.

Ideal candidates have 5–7 years in injection molding, 5–9 years in the automotive sector, and hands-on experience with tooling, robotics, and SMED methods. Travel to customer sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Plastics, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5–7 years minimum experience with injection molding.
• 5–9 years minimum experience in automotive industry.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and plants.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with mold changes and SMED methods is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead injection molding process improvement projects, focusing on cycle times, scrap reduction, quality, and material costs.
• Provide input for new product launch tooling and improvements to processes and tooling.
• Develop and execute plans for process improvements with accountable areas.
• Coordinate with Tooling Manager on tool repairs and maintenance.
• Train process technicians and mold changers; drive cycle time and mold change time reductions.
• Write appropriation requests for capital improvements and support plant implementation.
• Ensure safety rules are followed and unsafe actions are addressed.

Job description

• Assists providing direction to the site process team including PE's, Process Technicians, and mold setters.
• Responsible for injection molding related continuous improvement including but not limited too - cycle times, scrap, quality, and material cost reduction.
• Develops plans for injection molding process improvement and will have specific areas of accountability in its executions.
• Provides support on new product launch tooling, providing the manufacturing input for development of new process and improvements to existing processes and tooling.
• Follows established action plans for processes out of range.
• Work with Tooling Manager for all tool repairs and maintenance.
• Maintains documentation closely following necessary timeliness on specific projects.
• Enforce safety rules daily and actively intervene to correct recognized unsafe actions and conditions.
• Ability to complete employee development plans, organize, communicate, and motivate employees. Must be able to prioritize own work day schedule.
• Works closely with the site Technical Manager to develop appropriate training material for the plant's operations.
• Manages projects that could include: new equipment justification, selection, and installation; development of new manufacturing methods; machine utilization studies; and new tooling qualifications; in conjunction with the tooling process engineer, he/she will be responsible for new tool design and development.
• Responsible to be a root cause problem solver (must have problem solving training); when solving processing issues the PE will apply a logical methodology and will use data where possible to make the best decision.
• Develops a training program for process technicians and mold changers; leads cycle time improvements, mold change time reductions, and decreased process troubleshooting time.
• Have working knowledge of tooling and the requirements of a successful tool/process combination; expected to understand the YFAI tool prove out process.
• Work with cross functional team members to identify capital improvement opportunities and develop justification; when applicable the PE will need to write an appropriation’s request, follow the request through the approval process, and help the plant implement.
• Other duties and tasks as assigned by manager.

Required

Required Education

• Bachelor’s level degree, preferably in Plastics, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

Required qualifications

• 5-7 Minimum Years of Experience with injection molding process.
• 5-9 Minimum Years of Experience within the automotive industry.
• Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.
• Analytical problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional understanding of injection molding processes.
• Exceptional understanding and experience performing mold change requirements; experience using the use of SMED methods.
• Extensive hands on experience with injection molding equipment, robotics, and auxiliary equipment.
• Proven mechanical aptitude for problem solving.
• Proven process and tolling engineering excellence in the automotive industry.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
• RJG Master Molder I and II preferred
