Overview

The Senior Process Engineer position offers an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s rapidly expanding Raleigh-Durham team based in Apex, NC. We share knowledge, foster growth, and support PM Group’s expansion in the US. Our office executes cutting-edge projects in Cell & Gene Therapy, Biologics, and Pharma facilities, from feasibility to qualification, for local and international clients. Our projects aim to improve lives worldwide.

This senior-level position requires an engineer who enjoys client interaction and has a strong understanding of process design engineering. The role involves managing multiple complex projects, maintaining a strong work ethic, and collaborating effectively. Mentoring junior engineers and participating in all design phases—feasibility, conceptual, schematic, construction documentation, and administration—are key aspects. Projects primarily involve life sciences, including existing building upgrades and new constructions.

Responsibilities

1. Lead design from feasibility to optimization, presenting options to clients.
2. Perform detailed engineering, including process and utility calculations, drawings, and reports, either directly or through supervision.
3. Understand GMP requirements: material/personnel flows, clean room design, water standards, open vs. closed processing.
4. Resolve process design issues common in biopharmaceutical projects, such as water systems, flexible GMP facilities, and process expansion strategies.
5. Coordinate with internal disciplines and external consultants.
6. Develop mass balance, PFDs, and P&IDs for biopharmaceutical processes.
7. Design clean utility systems: water, WFI, steam, gases.
8. Specify process equipment for stainless steel and single-use systems.
9. Present PM Group’s process capabilities to potential clients.
10. Travel for workshops, HAZOPs, GMP reviews, etc.
11. Handle other assigned projects.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering.
2. 7+ years’ process engineering experience, preferably in pharma/biotech/Cell & Gene Therapy.
3. Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
4. Ability to develop P&IDs.
5. PE licensure preferred.
6. Self-starter with leadership skills.
7. Strong communication skills for technical reviews.
8. Knowledge of GMP environments preferred.
9. Willingness to travel as needed.
