Job summary

Marathon Carson Refinery in Carson, California is seeking a Senior Chemical Process Design Engineer focused on POG process optimization and growth. The role develops designs for new projects and modifications, supports safety reviews, and provides technical leadership across the project lifecycle.

You will lead process simulations, economic analysis, and collaboration with operations to improve throughput, yields, reliability and energy use while working onsite with standard schedules and TAR

Qualifications

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to wear PPE in refinery environments and perform field tasks.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to refinery/organizational long-term strategy and identifies opportunities to increase throughput and energy efficiency.
• Develops process designs for new projects and unit modifications (PFDs, P&IDs, heat/material balances).
• Performs process simulations and calculations for equipment sizing and energy optimization; leads economic analysis and ARR (rate of return).
• Collaborates with project engineers, operations, and vendors to align design with operational needs.
• Prepares process design packages and supports HAZOPs, LOPA, and safety reviews.
• Provides technical leadership during project execution including design reviews and commissioning.
• Stays current with industry standards to deliver high-quality, cost-effective designs.
• Mentors junior engineers.
