Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s Los Angeles Refinery in Carson/Wilmington, CA, seeks an Instrumentation Project Engineer to support process areas and major projects from conceptual design through startup. Qualifications

• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (completed prior to start date).
• Minimum 4 years post-degree instrumentation engineering experience in a refinery or related field.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to wear PPE and pass hair drug test and physical.
• Must have a valid driver's license and be legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
• Travel up to 5% annually.

Responsibilities

• Execute instrumentation projects aligned with refinery objectives for safe, reliable operations and regulatory compliance.
• Apply project management across development, justification, design, construction, and start-up.
• Provide instrumentation support to operating units and capital projects; act as project engineer on small projects.
• Manage multiple projects safely, within budget; develop schedules and mitigate delays.
• Design instrumentation, specify equipment, review datasheets, and prepare procurement requisitions.
• Support MOC, PSI, and SIS lifecycle and participate in FAT/SAT, loop checks, calibration, and startup.
• Evaluate new instrumentation technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Maintain piping and instrument diagrams, loop drawings, and logic diagrams with accuracy.
• Support TARs and maintenance outages by planning scope and coordinating with teams.
• Provide technical support for process analyzers and SIS/LOPA gap closure projects.
