Job summary

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector in Dulles, VA is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal System Safety Engineer to join our team. This on-site role requires active Top Secret clearance and focuses on applying MIL-STD-882E based safety analyses to complex spacecraft programs.

You will develop safety artifacts such as SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, and MSPSP, coordinate with cross-IPTs, and support design reviews from SRR to CDR. Strong writing and independent work are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 4 years of relevant experience (3 in System Safety).
• Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of System Safety experience.

Responsibilities

• Define, implement, and verify System Safety requirements to mitigate inherent risks.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate hazards in spacecraft per MIL-STD-882E.
• Prepare safety artifacts: SSPP, PHA, FHA, SHA/SSHA, FTA, SAR, HAZMAT, Software Safety Analysis, MSPSP.
• Coordinate with Cross-IPTs to adjudicate safety requirements and communicate risk.
• Assist in launch range safety documentation per AFSPCMAN 91-710.
• Support program milestones (SRR, PDR, CDR) and present to stakeholders.
