Job summary

Northrop Grumman Corp. seeks a Senior Principal Optical Engineer to lead optical implementations for EO/IR systems on airborne platforms, based in Linthicum, MD.

You will translate requirements into optical architectures, layouts, and detailed designs, while coordinating AI&T plans and mentoring junior staff. The role requires extensive Zemax/Code V/FRED experience, imaging and laser-based sensors expertise, and a proven ability to lead programs in defense environments; U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field; 8+ years experience, or Master’s 6+ years, or Ph.D. 4+ years.
• U.S. Citizenship is required and active clearance is needed.
• Experience with Zemax, Code V, and/or FRED for optical design and analysis.
• Experience in optical theory and detailed optical design for imaging and non-imaging systems.
• Ability to work in a team-based environment with cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Define architectures and lead implementations for IRAD, CRAD, and execution programs.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Design, develop, integrate, test, and deploy optical systems for EOIR platforms.
• Build and maintain physics-based sensor models.
• Develop and quantify performance metrics; validate data quality and artifacts.
