Job summary

Northrop Grumman's EOIR program seeks a Senior Principal Optical Engineer in Linthicum, MD to lead optical implementations for airborne EO/IR systems and interact with program architects and customers.

The role requires converting requirements into optical architectures, developing AI&T plans, mentoring junior staff and delivering high-TRL flight hardware through close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 8+ years, Master's with 6+ years, or Ph.D. with 4+ years in STEM.
• U.S. Citizenship and active Secret clearance required.
• Experience with Zemax, Code V and/or FRED for optical design and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Define architectures and lead IRAD, CRAD, and execution programs.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Design, develop, integrate, test, and deploy optical systems for EOIR platforms.
• Build physics-based sensor models.
• Develop performance metrics and quantify system performance.
• Represent system performance in functional and analytical models.
