Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to serve as Deputy technical lead for advanced EOIR sensor systems and AI/ML algorithm development. The role is 100% on-site in Linthicum, MD, with relocation assistance and up to 10% travel. Secret clearance is required.

The position requires leading R&D programs, mentoring engineers, and delivering EOIR-centric algorithms while ensuring system performance and data quality across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience, Master’s with 6 years, or Ph.D. with 4 years in STEM or related fields; or 4 additional years of experience may replace a degree.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Current active U.S. Government Secret clearance; ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
• Experience leading junior and/or peer team members.
• Experience in technical computing languages such as Python or MATLAB.
• Experience with airborne and/or space-based EOIR sensors.
• Knowledge of physics-based detection methods for various phenomenologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical execution of R&D programs in coordination with the algorithm architect.
• Guide a diverse team of physicists, signal processing engineers, and AI/ML engineers in developing EOIR sensor capabilities and evaluating performance.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Develop, integrate, test, and deploy EOIR-centric algorithms.
• Quantify system performance metrics and develop performance models.
• Understand data quality and artifact impacts and represent system performance in functional and analytical models.
