Job summary

QinetiQ US is seeking a highly motivated Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, analysis, and maintenance of military and commercial hardware products at our Franklin, MA facility. You will oversee mechanical and electromechanical assemblies for robotic platforms and ruggedized equipment, acting as a technical lead on proposals and projects.

The role requires extensive experience in mechanical design, FEA, and leadership, with hands-on design for manufacturability

Qualifications

• 15-30 years of mechanical design experience.
• Direct project engineering or technical lead experience.
• Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Design of land system platforms, maritime systems and hardware.
• Design of robotic systems and hardware.
• Capable of leading design teams of up to 6 engineers/designers.
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred.
• Experience with Ansys Fluent and CFX is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Electromechanical design, layout, modeling and production support of assemblies and electronics packaging.
• Perform analysis of mechanical systems using ANSYS Workbench for vibration, shock, fluids and thermal responses.
• Develop engineering estimates and design concepts for proposals.
• Implement Design for Manufacturability practices.
• Create/update detailed designs and drawings for fabrication.
• Interface with customers and vendors at the project level.
• Write design specifications, reports and proposals.
• Present technical internal and customer presentations.
• Perform tolerance analysis and approve designs.
• Provide technical guidance to vendors and manufacturing for DoD electromechanical assemblies.
• Disposition discrepant material and support assembly personnel for manufacturing.
