Job summary

Jobtailor in United States, Minnesota seeks an experienced engineer to guide manufacturing and transition-to-production for ammunition products. You will lead an integrated product team, manage schedule/cost as a control account manager, and resolve complex manufacturing issues across machining, coatings, heat treatment, and assembly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline plus 8 years of experience in a design and manufacturing environment; OR Master's degree in an Engineering discipline plus 6 years of experience in a design and manufacturing environment relevant to the duties listed
  • Ability to guide successful completion of significant projects and provide leadership, work direction, mentoring, and coordination of other technical team members
  • Significant experience working and communicating with customers, program management, and engineering management
  • Technical understanding of mechanical systems, electromechanical systems, manufacturing processes, metal coatings, heat treatments, metal fabrication, and/or standard assembly processes
  • Knowledge of engineering and scientific methods, theories, and research techniques for investigating and solving technical problems
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary organizations in remote settings and build strong relationships
  • Experience and proficiency working with multiple projects
  • Self-motivated to start and complete quality work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and fluency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information if selected
  • US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Provide multifunctional engineering guidance and support for manufacturing current products, transition-to-production of new products, and testing of medium caliber ammunition
  • Lead as a member of an integrated product team and understand contract and technical requirements
  • Provide engineering support and work direction to manufacturing and test locations
  • Investigate and solve product and manufacturing issues
  • Coordinate efforts among Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, and Test
  • Support manufacturing and ammunition testing
  • Communicate with internal and external customers
  • Provide support and oversight to material suppliers
  • Act as the technical interface to customers and establish working relationships
  • Support the Program Manager as a control account manager for schedule and cost tracking
  • Resolve complex manufacturing process issues involving machining, metal finishing, painting, heat treating, mechanical assembly, and testing
  • Research and evaluate tools and equipment for manufacturing improvements
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes
  • Develop task releases and introduce them into the manufacturing system
  • Develop and execute test plans
  • Prepare for and support Build Readiness, Production Readiness, and Test Readiness Reviews
  • Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for process and product issues
  • Create and release Engineering Changes and disposition tooling, gauge, and non-conforming product changes
  • Create, review, and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, bills of material, build lists, and Technical Data Packages
  • Ensure documentation is properly maintained in the Configuration Management system
  • Assist with engineering and program proposals
  • Participate in customer meetings and program reviews
  • Travel domestically up to approximately 25% and internationally as needed
