Job summary

ENERCON is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Senior or Principal) to join our Nuclear Design Group in Huntsville, AL. This full-time role leads design projects for power generation facilities and mentors junior engineers.

The position requires 6+ years (senior) or 10+ years (principal) of mechanical design experience, with nuclear or government (DOE) project exposure, and strong communication skills. Proficiency with Word and Excel is expected, and travel is about 10% for site activities.

Qualifications

• Senior position requires minimum 6 years of mechanical design experience in power/industrial settings.
• Principal position requires minimum 10 years of mechanical design experience.
• Experience in power generation, nuclear power or government (DOE) projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to contribute as an individual and work well in teams.
• Proficiency with Word and Excel; US citizenship required for federal contracts.
• Approximate travel around 10% as needed.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of projects from major plant modifications to smaller design initiatives.
• Lead multi-discipline engineering efforts on cooling water systems, pumps, motors, piping, and heat exchangers.
• Lead valve replacement projects and evaluate equipment options.
• Prepare technical reports such as corrosion studies and equipment evaluations.
• Deliver accurate drawings, sketches, calculations, and analyses meeting codes and client needs.
• Ensure documents align with client, ENERCON, and regulatory requirements.
• Travel to plant sites to engage with client personnel and perform on-site assessments.
