We are seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer in our Operations Division.
You will support the reliable operation of Industrial Electrical Equipment and perform Electrical Power Systems Analysis for company-owned and operated facilities in North America.
This position requires knowledge and application of switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, motors, and generators used in industrial power systems and the ability to prepare and interpret specifications related to equipment. You will have knowledge and experience in performing detailed power system engineering studies.
This role reports to our Manager of Electrical Engineering at our Global Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, PA.

Required Skills / Abilities:
- Knowledge and application of switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, motors, and generators used in industrial power systems.
- Ability to prepare and interpret specifications related to such equipment.
- Experience in performing detailed power system engineering studies.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Respond and provide technical assistance for electrical equipment problems within the company-owned facilities.
- Direct and oversee vendor shop repairs on high voltage motors and equipment for quality assurance.
- Issue reports at the conclusion of critical jobs for proper historical documentation.
- Identify engineered solutions to recurring electrical issues.
- Improve plant/equipment reliability through historical trending and improved maintenance procedures.
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis (RCA).
- Execute equipment maintenance strategies (predictive and preventive).
- Ensure adherence to internal and national standards when specifying and maintaining equipment.
- Support training, coaching, and mentoring of junior engineers, field technicians, and operations staff in safety, preventative maintenance, and operation of electrical systems.
- Support the maintenance of company electrical safe work practice standards to ensure that they are current with industry standards and recommended best practices.
- Perform Electrical engineering power systems analysis calculations including transient motor starting, short circuit, arc flash, and load flow.
- Program protective relays with settings developed in systems analysis.
- Coordinate with utility and/or customer to update power system information for operating plants.
- Specify and purchase key electrical equipment such as medium and low voltage switchgear and motor control centers, transformers, VFDs, UPS systems, and DC systems.
- Write purchase specifications, evaluate quotations, perform technical bid evaluations, vendor document review, and factory acceptance testing.
- Provide start-up and commissioning support for electrical distribution equipment and motors.
Minimum Hiring Requirements:
- 10 years of electrical engineering experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- An active PE license is preferred but not required.
- Experience in operations and maintenance of large industrial plants is required.
- Combinations of design and operations experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with SKM Power Tools for Windows engineering software.
- Experience in other software modeling packages such as ETAP is preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of SEL and Multilin protective relays.
- Experience specifying and working on HV substation equipment, transformers, HV and LV Motors and Generators, Motor control centers, Variable frequency drives, Station Battery, and UPS systems.
- Ability to travel in North America 15-20%.
- Computer literate and experienced in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and other standard business applications.
- Self-motivated, able to work with the appropriate level of supervision and accept a high degree of personal responsibility for results.
