Our energy consulting client is expanding across the US and seeks a project lead to work remotely. Must have an Engineering Degree and PSS/E experience (TARA is a bonus).
Critical Skills/Technologies:
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering
- No utility background required
- Experience in Stability Modeling - Dynamics essential
- Familiarity with NERC planning standards; some experience acceptable
- Experience with RTO/ISO planning is essential, with a preference for MISO / SPP / ERCOT in that order
- PSS/E experience is mandatory; TARA experience preferred; PSLF and other software a plus
Job Description
Lead the Transmission Energy Delivery Team remotely, with occasional travel (~10%). Main responsibilities include:
- Develop and verify power system models (power-flow, short-circuit, dynamic) considering transmission topology and electrical characteristics.
- Utilize vendor and client data for model development.
- Conduct transmission system studies using industry-standard software (PSS/E, PSLF) to evaluate system performance and compliance with NERC standards.
- Review and ensure compliance with NERC and regional standards in modeling and planning.
- Manage planning tasks related to transmission, load, and generation interconnections.
- Perform asset registration, facilities performance review, and power flow modeling.
- Represent the company at RTO/ISO stakeholder groups.
- Serve as the lead expert on Transmission Planning and NERC standards related to planning, rating, and modeling.
- Coordinate project tasks and communicate with clients via reports and presentations.
- Deliver accurate project outcomes, working independently and collaboratively.
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's in Electrical or Power Engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
- At least 4 years of relevant transmission planning or modeling experience.
- Proficiency with power system modeling tools (PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA).
- Experience with bulk power system planning and understanding of distribution/transmission design and operation.
- Knowledge of RTO/non-RTO interconnection requirements and NERC standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical one-lines and equipment specs.
- Competence in steady-state and transient stability studies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 10%.
