Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to help design the foundation of next-generation avionics in Huntsville, AL. You will lead architecture and development of core software components, libraries, and tooling for certifiable avionics platforms, collaborating across teams to meet civil and military certification standards.

You will drive DO-178 activities, produce certification artifacts (DAL A), and work with customers and regulators while applying modern C++ and OO

Qualifications

Degree in STEM with 10+ years experience or advanced degree with 7+ years.
U.S. citizenship is required for access to information on this program/contract.
Experience designing software architecture, libraries, or platform components in aerospace or safety-critical environments.
Ability to lead technical execution, engage customers, and present to senior stakeholders.
Hands-on DO-178 software development and certification artifacts experience.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture and design of core software components, libraries, and tooling.
Drive direction across development and verification activities for safety-critical software (DO-178).
Define and manage software requirements, decomposition, and traceability.
Develop and verify software using modern C++ and OO design principles.
Own DO-178 certification artifacts, including DAL-A deliverables.
Lead and support certification efforts with customers and regulatory authorities.
Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance.
Collaborate with engineering, program leadership, and customers to align solutions.
Travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
