Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to lead the architecture and development of core avionics software components, libraries, and tools. You will own DO-178 certification artifacts and drive safety-critical software activities across cross-functional teams, including customers and regulators.

This onsite role in Cedar Rapids, IA requires extensive C++ expertise and DO-178 experience.

Qualifications

Requires STEM degree with 10+ years experience or advanced degree with 7+ years
Experience designing and developing software architecture, libraries, or platform-level components in aerospace or safety-critical environments
Hands-on DO-178 software development and certification activities (requirements, verification, artifacts)
Experience leading cross-functional teams and engaging with customers and senior stakeholders

Responsibilities

Lead architecture and design of core software components, libraries, and tooling
Drive technical direction for safety-critical software (DO-178)
Define software requirements, decomposition, and traceability
Develop and verify software using modern C++ and OO design
Own DO-178 certification artifacts, including DAL-A
Lead certification efforts with customers and regulators
Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality and compliance
Collaborate with engineering, leadership, and customers on technical solutions
Travel domestically and internationally (<10%)
