Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to shape the software foundation powering modern avionics. You will lead architecture and development of core components, libraries, and tools across the full software lifecycle, working with cross-functional teams to meet civil and military certification standards.

This onsite role requires DO-178 certification experience, strong C++ skills, and the ability to produce certification artifacts (DAL A).

Qualifications

Degree in STEM with 8+ years of experience, or an advanced degree with 5+ years.
Experience designing and developing software architecture, libraries, or platform-level components in aerospace or safety-critical environments.
Proven ability to lead technical execution and engage customers and senior stakeholders.
Hands-on experience with DO-178 software development and certification artifacts.
Experience working across cross-functional engineering and program teams to deliver complex solutions.

Responsibilities

Lead architecture and design of core software components, libraries, and tooling for avionics systems.
Drive technical direction and execution for safety-critical software (DO-178).
Define and manage software requirements, decomposition, and traceability across complex systems.
Develop and verify software with modern C++ and OO design principles.
Own DO-178 certification artifacts (DAL-A) and support certification activities.
