Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Huntsville seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design core software components for avionics, aligning with DO-178 requirements and safety standards. You will develop architecture, libraries, and tooling, and drive technical direction across development and verification activities.

You will collaborate with engineering, program leadership, and customers to deliver high‑assurance software, certify artifacts, and participate in peer reviews.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM with 5+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years.
• U.S. citizenship or equivalent status required for access to program information.
• Proven experience designing software architecture and platform‑level components in aerospace or safety‑critical domains.
• Ability to lead technical execution, engage with customers, and present to stakeholders.
• Hands‑on experience with safety‑critical airborne software development and certification activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop architecture and design of core software components and libraries for avionics systems.
• Drive technical direction across development and verification activities (DO-178).
• Create software requirements, decomposition, and traceability across complex systems.
• Develop and verify software using modern C++ and OO principles.
• Produce DO-178 certification artifacts including DAL‑A deliverables.
• Lead certification efforts with customers and regulatory authorities.
• Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality and compliance across the lifecycle.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, program leadership, and customers.
