Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Huntsville, AL seeks a Senior Software Engineer to architect and develop core software components, libraries, and tooling for avionics platforms in safety-critical environments.

You will drive DO-178 activities, develop requirements and traceability, and deliver DO-178 certification artifacts (DAL-A) while collaborating with cross-functional teams and customers. Domestic/international travel is expected.

Qualifications

• STEM degree with 5+ years of relevant aerospace software experience, or advanced degree with 3+ years.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Experience designing and developing software architecture, libraries, or platform-level components in an aerospace or safety-critical environment.
• Experience leading technical execution, including customer engagement and stakeholder presentations.
• Hands-on experience with safety-critical airborne software development and certification activities (requirements, verification, or artifacts).

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop core software components, libraries, and tooling for avionics platforms.
• Lead development and verification for safety-critical software (DO-178).
• Develop requirements, decomposition, and traceability across complex systems.
• Implement software using modern C++ and OO design.
• Create DO-178 certification artifacts, including DAL-A deliverables.
• Coordinate certification activities with customers and regulatory authorities.
• Perform peer reviews to ensure quality and compliance across the lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineering, program leadership, and customers to align solutions.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally.
