Vertex, Inc. is seeking a Senior Principal AI Engineer to lead design and implementation of scalable, secure AI-powered software across enterprise-scale projects. You will own the technical vision for AIaaS within the CAI CoE, guiding data, model training, retrieval, and production operations.

You will establish reference architectures, set standards, and mentor Principal and Staff engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact AI solutions at scale.

Qualifikationen

• 15+ years in AI/ML software engineering with demonstrated Senior Principal-level impact delivering production AI at enterprise scale.
• Full-lifecycle mastery across training/fine-tuning and LLM orchestration in production.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and large-scale data pipelines.
• Data management and governance including lineage, licensing/consent, and PII handling.
• Design of developer platforms, APIs, reusable SDKs, and multi-agent orchestrations.
• Approach to AI evaluation, observability, and guardrails in production.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure strongly preferred) and optimizing AI workloads.

Aufgaben

• Set multi-year technical vision and enterprise standards for AIaaS across the org.
• Define and own enterprise model-training strategy across traditional AI/ML and LLMs.
• Train, fine-tune, and evaluate models when needed (QLoRA/LoRA/PEFT).
• Architect data pipelines, data governance, and tooling for AI training data.
• Design orchestration layers connecting LLMs to tools, data, and sub-agents.
• Develop retrieval/RAG systems end-to-end including embeddings and vector stores.
• Own evaluation, observability, safety strategy, and guardrails for AI systems.
• Drive build-vs-buy decisions and vendor selection; mentor senior engineers.
