Job summary

McKinstry in Seattle is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Engineer to join our New Construction Mechanical Department. You will own conceptual estimates, manage scope and budgets before construction, and collaborate with Project Managers to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to construction.

You will support design phase budgeting, risk assessment, and opportunity management while safeguarding gross margins and guiding the project team from early design through permitting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Three to seven years of experience in engineering, project management, or construction is required.
• Experience with General Contractors or major mechanical subcontractors preferred.
• Basic estimating skills required.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• PE, CPM, LEED designations are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Own conceptual estimates for new construction (mechanical).
• Support management of scope and budget before construction begins.
• Assist design phase management, budget management and risk/opportunity management.
• Manage project from early design through construction and permitting.
• Partner with Project Managers for smooth transition from preconstruction to construction.
• Protect/enhance gross margins on all projects.
• Develop conceptual mechanical budgets and scope letters with sales.
