Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer for a fully remote position based in South Africa. You will analyze, design, and optimize generation, transmission, and distribution networks, applying power system dynamics, protection schemes, and stability studies.

You will lead challenging projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with international clients to deliver high-impact energy infrastructure solutions while staying aligned with IEC, IEEE, and SANS standards.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in power systems engineering.
• Extensive experience with power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• In-depth knowledge of power system protection, control, and operation.
• Proven experience in designing and analyzing transmission and distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, stability, and harmonic studies.
• Design and specify protection schemes, relay settings, and substation layouts.
• Develop and review electrical system designs for generation plants, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Conduct feasibility studies and provide recommendations for power system upgrades and expansions.
• Utilize advanced power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to define project requirements and ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international standards (IEC, IEEE, SANS).
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the power systems industry.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
