Job summary

Siemens seeks a Power System Protection Engineer to design, implement, and test protective relay systems for power utilities and substations, with emphasis on reliability and customer satisfaction. This hybrid role is based at our Wendell, NC location.

You’ll lead project teams, perform FAT/SAT, work with Omicron and Doble test equipment, and travel 50-70% as needed, while applying IEC standards and protection schemes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3+ years in power systems protection engineering with HV experience.
• Experience leading technical projects or as Technical Lead.
• Ability to read DC/AC schematics and 3- and 1-line diagrams for substations.
• Knowledge of relay products/software from Siemens/GE/SEL/ABB.
• Experience with protection functions: Overcurrent, Over-Undervoltage, Transformer Differential, Generator, etc.
• Experience in IEC61850, MODBUS, IEC60870 protocols.
• Substation protection commissioning and testing.
• Willingness to travel 50–70%.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and test protective relay systems for substations.
• Execute FAT and SAT and prepare test procedures and commissioning scripts.
• Lead projects and guide project teams; serve as client interface on-site.
• Work with protection schemes aligned to standards and customer needs.
• Provide on-site support, troubleshooting, and commissioning expertise.
