Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a Power System Protection Engineer to design, test, implement, and optimize protection and control schemes for electrical grids.

You will develop protective relay settings for utilities and industrial clients, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet system requirements and modernization goals. The role emphasizes hands-on testing, commissioning, and adherence to SEL values and world-class manufacturing principles.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.
• 3+ years experience with electric power systems and protection design.
• Strong knowledge of protection principles and relay coordination.
• Willing to travel domestically and internationally at least 25%.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team.
• Background check satisfactory; drug test results.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control schemes for power systems.
• Create protective relay settings for transmission and distribution.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and technicians to assess requirements.
• Develop expertise in relay technologies, automation, and modernization initiatives.
• Perform system testing and commissioning to validate protection schemes.
• Follow SEL values and manufacturing principles.
