Urban Electric Power in Pearl River, NY is seeking a Power Electronics Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team. You will design and size low voltage AC power converters, develop gate drivers, and work with mechanical engineers to integrate electronics into drawings.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, Matlab simulations, UL certification familiarity, and the development of power conversion topologies for motor drives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5–15 years of related experience.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience designing power converters and control systems, preferably motor drives.
• Hands-on testing of electric drive systems and UL certification knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Perform sizing studies and designs for low voltage AC power converters (>20 A).
• Conceive and lead AC/AC power converter designs with solid state switching devices.
• Identify, specify and qualify IGBTs, diodes, power supplies and passive components.
• Develop control algorithms for power converters and protective thresholds.
• Use Matlab or similar tools to verify designs and predict performance.
• Design schematics for power circuits and assist gate driver development.
• Design magnetic components like reactors and transformers.
• Coordinate and conduct tests in the lab and document results.
• Assist in product certification with UL and on customer support.
