Job summary

General Motors (GM) is seeking a Power Electronics Hardware Design Lead to drive development and release of high-voltage power electronics for electrified vehicles. You will translate system requirements into automotive-grade HV converters, guide architecture choices, and lead cross-functional teams through design, validation, and launch.

The role combines hands-on hardware design with technical leadership, ensuring performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability across DC-DC converters,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years in design and industrialization of power converter products, validating, or launching high-voltage automotive power electronics.
  • Experience with converter architecture/topology trade studies, operating modes, control/protection strategy, efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Hands-on design of magnetics; high-voltage PCB design; EMI/EMC mitigation; electrical/thermal analysis.
  • Experience with lab measurement, debugging, simulation-to-test, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
  • Proficiency with LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, FEM or thermal tools; schematic capture and PCB tools (Mentor Altium).
  • Knowledge of EMC, signal and power integrity, high-voltage safety, and vehicle integration.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and interpret requirements, translate to hardware functions and interfaces.
  • Define converter architecture, topology, operating modes, control and protection strategies.
  • Lead design from concept to release, assign ownership, and resolve blockers.
  • Perform electrical, thermal, and magnetic analyses; worst-case analysis.
  • Lead hardware design reviews per GM process and validate via testing.
  • Oversee reliability, DFMEA/DRBFM, and DFMEA activities for risk reduction.
  • Collaborate with controls, mechanical, thermal, validation, and suppliers.
