General Motors LLC seeks a power electronics engineer to lead design and development of next-generation power converters for EV applications, including APM and OBCM.

The role emphasizes robust hardware and systems solutions to boost efficiency, power density, cost, packaging, manufacturability, reliability, and customer value, with a hybrid work model requiring onsite presence three days per week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with focus in power electronics.
  • Experience designing and developing DC/DC or AC/DC converters.
  • Strong understanding of power-electronics theory, converter topologies, switching devices, magnetics, gate drives, control methods, protection circuits, and losses.
  • EMC/EMI design and troubleshooting in power-electronics modules.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage automotive systems, isolation and pre-charge.

Responsibilities

  • Develop converter architectures and power-stage concepts, including topology selection and isolation.
  • Create schematics, power-stage designs, and interfaces for prototypes and production-intent concepts.
  • Perform design trade studies using simulation, benchmarking, cost, efficiency, and reliability analyses.
  • Model converter steady-state, transient, switching, thermal, and control-loop behavior.
  • Ensure EMC/EMI performance, high-voltage safety, and environmental robustness.
  • Lead DFMEA, fault-tree analysis, design reviews, and verification planning.
  • Plan prototype builds, bench testing, and hardware debugging in HV labs.
  • Collaborate with controls and embedded software on modulation and protection strategies.
  • Provide direction to suppliers and conduct reviews and issue-resolution.
  • Work with cross-functional teams through product development phases.
