Job summary

Huntress is seeking a Staff Database Reliability Engineer (PostgreSQL) to join our remote US team. You’ll own the stability, scalability, and performance of large PostgreSQL clusters powering the Huntress Security Platform and millions of endpoints.

You’ll tune configs, design indexing strategies, implement partitioning/sharding, and collaborate with SRE to optimize Azure deployments, while mentoring application teams on query and schema design. Remote, full-time, with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of PostgreSQL in production, with large-scale clusters.
• Expertise in replication, failover, backup and recovery.
• Experience managing terabyte-scale databases and 24/7 production.
• Strong observability with DataDog/NewRelic or similar.

Responsibilities

• Continuously review and fine-tune PostgreSQL configuration parameters (e.g., shared_buffers, work_mem, autovacuum settings) to maximize resource utilization and match the current workload profile.
• Forecast future resource needs based on application growth and agent usage trends, and propose scaling solutions.
• Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive monitoring dashboards and alerting systems to track KPIs like latency, throughput, connection count, and cache hit ratio.
• Design, implement, and maintain optimal indexing strategies to support application requirements, and systematically identify and remove redundant or underutilized indexes that degrade write performance.
• Implement and manage advanced scaling techniques such as database partitioning for large tables and, where necessary, coordinate efforts for database sharding.
• Partner with SRE team to optimize PostgreSQL deployments in Azure, ensuring efficient use of cloud-specific storage and networking.
• Provide technical guidance to application teams on their query/schema/index designs.
