Job summary

Appsierra Group seeks a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to architect, optimize, and maintain large PostgreSQL deployments in a remote, full-time role.

You will leverage PostgreSQL internals, AWS RDS, and Aurora PostgreSQL to ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and scalable performance.

Work with cross-functional teams in a cloud-native, remote-first environment and contribute to robust runbooks and docs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and replication.
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, including backup, recovery, and high-availability architecture.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and bottlenecks.
• Experience maintaining large-scale, high-traffic databases with millions of rows.
• Clear, proactive written and verbal communication; able to work remotely.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage highly available PostgreSQL architectures on AWS.
• Analyze query execution plans and optimize performance.
• Ensure DR readiness with backup, replication, and failover.
• Diagnose slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and bottlenecks in large databases.
• Automate routine maintenance and promote operational excellence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on data migrations and scaling.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
• Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
