micro1 is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to design and optimize PostgreSQL environments in a remote-first, fast-paced setting. You will architect highly available databases on AWS, optimize performance, and ensure robust disaster recovery while collaborating across teams on migrations and scale.

The role emphasizes deep PostgreSQL expertise, proactive communication, and independent work in a remote team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production PostgreSQL experience.
• Expert PostgreSQL internals, tuning, indexing, partitioning, and replication.
• Hands-on with AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, including backup and high-availability design.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and bottlenecks.
• Experience with large-scale, high-traffic databases.
• Clear, proactive written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and in a remote team.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage highly available PostgreSQL architectures on AWS.
• Analyze query plans and optimize performance with indexing and partitioning.
• Ensure disaster recovery with backups, replication, and failover.
• Diagnose slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and bottlenecks in large databases.
• Automate routine maintenance and promote operational excellence.
• Collaborate to support data migrations and feature rollouts.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and clear communication.
