Exponent seeks an experienced Senior Managing Scientist in our Polymers & Chemistry Practice. Lead interdisciplinary teams solving complex polymer materials challenges across life sciences, consumer products, infrastructure, and automotive applications.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of scientific or engineering consulting experience with an existing client base, strong communication, and a track record of business development.

Qualifications

• PhD in Polymer Science or Materials Science with focus on structure–property–end-use relationships.
• Minimum of 5 years of consulting experience in polymer or materials science.
• Proven track record of business generation and attracting clients or funding.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with data interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Leverage deep polymer science knowledge to address diverse client challenges and provide rigorous solutions.
• Identify and pursue new client engagements; build long-term partnerships.
• Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients by delivering high-quality work.
• Build and empower multidisciplinary teams; foster collaboration and scientific integrity.
• Provide coaching and development opportunities to technical staff for leadership growth.
• Ensure successful project execution through planning, resource allocation, and budget management.
• Offer high-level scientific and strategic advice to internal and external stakeholders; contribute to thought leadership.
• Publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and participate in expert committees.
