Job summary

The NYC Department of Buildings is hiring an Inspector (Plumbing) to perform field surveys, inspect plumbing installations, and review drawings for code compliance. The role requires strong knowledge of plumbing systems and the ability to write clear field reports.

Work location is citywide with shift flexibility including nights and weekends. Required qualifications include substantial plumbing experience, formal plumbing training or related education, and relevant licenses or equivalent

Qualifications

Two years of full-time experience as plumber, inspector, or supervisor.
One year of formal plumbing training or education.
Sixty credits toward civil/engineering degree.
Completion of an apprentice program in plumbing.
Possession of a professional engineer or registered architect license.
Equivalent education or experience.

Responsibilities

Perform field surveys and sweeps of work sites and plumbing systems for code conformance.
Inspect plumbing installations, repairs, or alterations for code compliance.
Study architectural and engineering drawings to obtain inspection details.
