Job summary

The Department of Buildings in New York City is seeking an Inspector (Construction) to inspect erection, alteration and repair of structures and ensure compliance with NYC Construction Code, Zoning Resolution and approved plans.

Under general supervision, you will perform technical inspections, respond to incidents, issue violations, verify licenses, testify when needed, and maintain records. This role may require night shifts and citywide transfers; a valid NY driver license is required.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time construction-related experience required or equivalent.
• Licensure as PE or Architect or Site Safety Manager meets minimum.
• Education/experience options as described in minimum qualifications.
• Willingness to work shifts including nights and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of construction work for conformance with NYC Construction Code, Zoning Resolution and approved plans.
• Respond to accidents and complaints; investigate and report conformity with laws and rules.
• Issue violations, summonses and stop work orders; verify licenses.
• Testify as needed at ECB, depositions and court; maintain records and reports.
